Keratoconus is an uncommon condition in which the cornea, the clear front window of the
eye, becomes thin and ectatic, taking on the shape of a cone. The disease
usually afflicts people in their late teens to early twenties. In the
early stages, vision may only be slightly affected, however as the disease
progresses, vision can become much more distorted. These vision changes
can be accompanied by light sensitivity and discomfort in more advanced
cases.
Keratoconus is treated with eyeglasses or specially designed
contact lenses.
When vision is no longer satisfactory by one or both of these options,
a Corneal Transplant may be recommended.
Dr. Bokosky, as a Corneal Specialist, has been treating
Keratoconus for many years and has successfully performed many Corneal Transplants, allowing
his patients to return to a productive, healthy lifestyle.
