John E. Bokosky, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a highly esteemed San Diego surgeon celebrated for his exceptional expertise in cornea surgery and vision correction. Currently serving as the Medical Director at Eye Care of San Diego, Dr. Bokosky holds key positions at renowned institutions including Scripps-Mercy Hospital, Sharp Memorial Hospital, and Scripps Memorial Hospital in San Diego County. His distinguished career includes a notable stint as the chief of ophthalmology at Scripps-Mercy Hospital and Medical Center.
A recipient of numerous appointments and awards, Dr. Bokosky serves as the Medical Director of the San Diego Eye Bank. He is recognized as a Diplomate and Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and has previously held the position of president at the San Diego County Ophthalmological Society. His consistent recognition as a “Top Doctor” by peers in the San Diego Medical Society reflects his unwavering commitment to excellence.
His specialized training in ophthalmology includes certification to perform laser vision correction, including LASIK and PRK, and certification to perform Intacs for the treatment of keratoconus. Dr. Bokosky has surgical expertise in penetrating, lamellar and endothelial corneal transplant surgery; cataract extraction using phacoemulsification; LenSx; ORA; intraocular lens implants (IOL); and multifocal and accommodative IOL options, including Restor, Tecnis and Crystalens. He consults on complicated intraocular lens implant problems and diseases of the anterior segment of the eye, including dry eye, blepharitis, post-refractive issues, and severe ocular and corneal conditions, including infections. He performs pterygium surgery with ocular surfacing using amniotic membrane grafting and limbal stem cell transplants.
